Artificial Intelligence

Okay, I am not talking about robots or flying cars or any futuristic type of machinery, but what I am talking about is the new world we live in. A while ago I wrote an article titled “Asleep at the Potters Wheel”, in an attempt to create an awareness of the new world we find ourselves in and how much more self-aware we must become to thrive and, yes, even survive. I think the meaning was hidden by my attempt in creative wordplay, so let me be a bit more direct.

For thousands of years, we have lived in an environment that required physical effort to get through the day, from walking everywhere as a necessary form of locomotion, to working with our hands to grow our food, build our shelters and just about everything in our day required our physical effort. This external stressor, we used to call living, helped shaped our body due to the efforts required to live day-to-day. We were physically stronger, our bones and muscles denser, organs functioned better, and many of the lifestyle disorders we now are burdened with did not exist. Now that no longer exist in most of the world, so our bodies are no longer receiving the physical stress that used to keep us strong and healthy.

So the only way back is to create an “artificial” representation of labor which we call exercise unless you wish to move to a farm. And the type of exercise? Multi-direction movements like yoga, strength training, Pilates. I would use strength training as a base due to the labor like an aspect of the activity we trying to recreate and then use yoga and Pilates to create graceful movements and flexibility. And how about our food supply? The standard approach is to “eat healthy” but that option left the scene years ago and now we are having to support our diet with extra nutrition, as what we pull out of the ground is no longer sufficient. Another “artificial” method is needed to improve and prolong health as the old way of eating no longer supports health let alone life.

We can even look as far as our cognition, our capacity to think critically, focus and comprehend facts and information. We now have programs like “eye Q” and “luminosity” that are designed to work with and improve memory, critical thinking, comprehension, due to this lighting speed everything is coming at us our brains have trouble focusing and are become overtaxed. Again, another example of the necessary or “artificial” means required to remain healthy, both in mind and body.

The moral to this story? This is not the time to fall asleep at the wheel but rather the time to start to wake up to the reality that in order to thrive in this day and age we must be self-aware and take matters into our hands, not waiting for things to simply happen. The great thing is that are so many possibilities now for us to step into that will help us on our way to reclaiming our health and our life. We just need to take the first step and use our “artificial intelligence”.
