Years ago I read a book titled "How to Break (down) the Ten
Commandments". Right now the author escapes me, but that is unimportant at this time.
What is important is that his interpretation of the commandments was to replace the
"thou" to "I". For instance, "I Am the Lord my God, and I will
have no other Gods before me", or, " I will not Kill", or "I will
honor my mother and father". Now this brought a whole different light of
understanding to me. And, it was very comfortable and had more meaning than the way I
previously taught. But my realizations, were not in just how to read the commandments. It also brought me to a realization that the two words "I AM" were probably the most important two words to be thought or to be voiced by me. Please understand, that I believe that we create what we experience by our thoughts...and, most importantly by our spoken word. When we speak, it is a statement of our beliefs. Jesus said, "It is as you believe." "I AM" is definitely making a statement that what ever I say following these two words is what I believe myself to be. When I make statements such as: "I AM tired!", "I AM feeling sick!", "I AM broke!", "I AM lonely!", "I AM not happy!", etc. , I AM making statements about what I believe about myself. Now, I do not know about you, but that is scary when one adds the belief that our words create. How many times a day do you make statements like these? How many times a day do you accept that which is not to your best interest? How many times a day do you tell the Universe what you want coming into your life at present...and, in your future? If our words really do create, then what are we really creating for ourselves when we use these two words I AM"? From this awareness, I started making many changes in the way I thought and spoke. For instance, many of those around me have heard me slip and make a statement "I AM tired!"...only to catch myself and follow it with "up until now!". Or, in my circle of friends, when someone else makes a negative statement about themselves, I will remind them with "up until now". Recently, I have made some changes with this. Now I make the statement, "In the past, I have been tired. Now, I AM choosing to be full of energy." "I AM choosing..." are the key essential words here. So, has this change in my life helped? Not only has it proven to be true for me, but it has proven to be true for those that I have taught it to through the years. Teaching it to others has been very beneficial for all of us since we all slip on occasion. If others around you are also working to improve their lives, then you have reminders. Some might say that the use of these two words in this manner, or the idea of accepting the responsibility of that portion of God that each of us is...is EGO (Edging God Out). Personally, being more conscious of what I truly am is not ego. Is God ever tired? Is God ever unhappy? Is God ever lonely? I doubt it from what I am aware of. And, if God is all that exists, then that is all I can truly be. So, thoughts of any kind of lack has got to be of the human experience ego, not of God...or that part of us that is the consciousness of God. So right now, "I AM CHOOSING to be more conscious of what I say when I start making a statement about myself that starts with the words "I AM". |
